Description

Pipe bursting is a semi- trenchless method that makes it possible to upsize or replace size for size existing, failed water, sewer or other commercial pipes ranging in size from 6 to 36 inches in diameter without the headaches and costs associated with traditional open excavation methods.

Pipe bursting equipment is designed and manufactured to force its way through an existing pipe of equal or smaller size following similar line and grade, while at the same time fragmenting (bursting) the old pipe and compressing pipe fragments into the surrounding soils, as it advances. The bursting equipment and other specialty tooling simultaneously expand and install new pipe within a small annular space created by the bursting equipment. The use of a guide cable at the terminating end of the run typically assists with the guidance and installation of the new polyethylene (PE) pipe.
